 Ikeja LG Chairman Hosts NYCN, Pledges Support for Youth Development

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has assured the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ikeja Local Chapter, of his administration’s full support for programmes and initiatives aimed at empowering young people in the community.

AKOD gave the assurance when he received the NYCN executives, led by their Coordinator, Comrade Blessing, at the council secretariat on Monday. The visit marked the first official engagement between the newly inaugurated NYCN leadership and the Chairman.

The NYCN delegation congratulated AKOD on his emergence as council chairman, briefed him on the group’s activities, and called for stronger collaboration with the local government. They also outlined key needs and areas for partnership in youth-focused initiatives.

In his remarks, AKOD commended the council’s dedication and commitment to youth development. He urged the revival of traditional youth organisations such as the Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Guild, describing them as vital platforms for instilling discipline, values, and purpose in young people.

The Chairman reaffirmed that education and youth empowerment remain central to his administration’s agenda. He revealed plans to roll out targeted initiatives to combat drug abuse, promote healthy lifestyles, and engage young people productively.

“We will work closely with the NYCN to implement the Ikeja Youth Masterplan,” AKOD said, stressing the importance of creating opportunities that channel the energy of youths towards positive pursuits.

Also present at the meeting were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore (Omituntun); Chief of Staff, Hon. Adeniyi Adeyi (Baba Oja); HOD Agric, Alhaja Badejo; and HOD Information, Alhaja Kofoworola Dosunmu.
