Lagos CP Moshood Jimoh Visits State CID Panti, Commends DCP Akinbisehin’s Crime-Fighting Achievements

Yaba, Lagos – August 2025

In a demonstration of strategic oversight and commitment to internal security in Lagos State, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, on a working tour, paid a visit to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba — regarded as Nigeria’s foremost state-level investigative unit.

The visit, which was both symbolic and strategic, was warmly received by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID, DCP Soledayo Ralph Akinbisehin, psc, alongside his team of senior officers and personnel.

In his welcome address, DCP Akinbisehin expressed deep appreciation to CP Jimoh for entrusting him with the leadership of the SCID, describing it as a high honour and a critical responsibility at a pivotal time in policing. He hailed the CP’s reform-driven leadership, pledging continued loyalty and commitment to upholding the Command’s core values of professionalism, integrity, and service.

“Sir, there is no doubt that the State CID, Panti, Yaba remains the foremost State Police Criminal Investigation Department in Nigeria. The history, evolution, and landmark achievements of this department are engraved in the annals of Nigerian policing,” DCP Akinbisehin stated.

The SCID Mandate and Transformation Drive

DCP Akinbisehin highlighted the department’s central role in handling high-profile and complex investigations — including petitions, capital offences, and cases referred from divisions and area commands across the state.

With a total strength of 389 officers and men, supported by 4 IT students and 2 NYSC members, the department has become a hub for tackling both traditional and modern criminal threats. Akinbisehin noted the shift of criminal activities into the digital realm, stressing the need for improved cybercrime and cybersecurity capabilities within the department.

He explained that the department has prioritized continuous in-house training, ensuring section heads are regularly updated on modern investigative and policing techniques. He also announced a forthcoming two-day training programme for detectives, powered by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, to be held at the SCID conference hall.

In line with CP Jimoh’s vision for modernized policing, the department has also undergone structural and operational reorganization. New specialized sections have been created to address emerging threats and evolving crime trends. These include:

• Anti-Kidnapping Section
• Anti-Cultism Section
• Financial Crimes Unit
• Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Desk
• Anti-Money Laundering/Terrorism Financing Section
• Political Desk
• Economic Sabotage Section
• Disaster Management Desk
• Domestic Violence Section, among others.

DCP Akinbisehin proudly stated that these newly established sections are fully operational, with notable investigative breakthroughs recorded in the last four months. A significant number of petitions and transferred cases have been diligently handled — many already charged to court, while others remain under discreet investigation.

Achievements and Challenges

Under DCP Akinbisehin’s leadership, the SCID has recorded remarkable achievements, including the seizure of over 70 vehicles linked to crimes such as fraud, armed robbery, and car theft, among others.

In his remarks, CP Moshood Olohundare Jimoh expressed satisfaction with the strides made by the SCID under DCP Akinbisehin’s leadership. He commended the department for its resilience, innovation, and effectiveness in combating serious crimes across the state.

“I am deeply impressed by the level of dedication and the array of reforms being executed here at SCID, Panti. The seizure of over 70 vehicles linked to criminal activities is no small feat. It speaks volumes about the capacity and readiness of this department to deliver justice and maintain law and order,” CP Jimoh remarked.

He assured the department of his continued support and promised to escalate some of the issues raised to the relevant authorities and stakeholders for urgent intervention.

DCP Akinbisehin: A Storied Career of Excellence

DCP Soledayo Ralph Akinbisehin boasts a distinguished policing career marked by excellence, innovation, and dedication. Since his commissioning as a Cadet ASP, he has served in multiple sensitive roles across Nigeria. From his early days in Akwa Ibom State CID to his notable stints in Lagos — including postings at Bar Beach, Apapa, and the elite Force CID Annex at Alagbon — Akinbisehin has consistently proven himself a crack investigator.

He has held critical positions such as:

• Officer in Charge (O/C), Financial Crimes and Anti-Money Laundering, SFU Ikoyi
• Head, Multi-Agency Fusion Center on Counter-Terrorism, Office of the National Security Adviser, Abuja
• Deputy Commissioner of Police, DFA, Zone 16 Command Headquarters, Bayelsa State

He is a recipient of multiple IGP Commendations and has participated in numerous local and international law enforcement trainings. A professional to the core, DCP Akinbisehin is also a member of various law enforcement and security organizations globally.
