Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has sealed Vaniti Club House, a popular nightlife spot on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, following repeated violations of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018. The action was carried out by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a decisive move to clamp down on traffic obstruction and safeguard public safety.

According to a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, the enforcement was led by the agency’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, and executed by the Rescue and Compliance Unit. The club was accused of persistent illegal roadside parking and encroachment on public roads, creating severe disruptions to traffic flow and endangering road users.

“Despite multiple warnings, public awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagements, the management of Vaniti Club House has continually disregarded the law by enabling activities that obstruct traffic and compromise public safety,” the statement read.

The Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law explicitly prohibits any act that blocks roadways or poses a hazard to commuters, categorizing such offenses as serious and punishable under the law. Authorities noted that Vaniti Club’s conduct has become a recurring issue within the already congested Victoria Island axis.

Mr. Bakare-Oki emphasized that the closure is part of a broader and sustained enforcement effort targeting clubs, event centres, lounges, and recreational venues that unlawfully appropriate public roads for parking or operations.

“This is not a one-time enforcement. It marks the beginning of an aggressive compliance drive. We are monitoring other establishments, and those found violating traffic laws will face similar sanctions,” he warned.

The premises will remain sealed until the club demonstrates full compliance with all traffic regulations and related state guidelines.

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on any actions that obstruct free movement or threaten public order. It also urged residents and commuters to report any establishments found encroaching on public roads or creating traffic bottlenecks.
