One Dead in Mile 2 Crash as LASTMA Clears Scene, Warns Against Reckless Driving
A fatal crash at Volkswagen bus stop, inward Mile 2, Lagos, claimed the life of a motorist on Monday morning. The accident involved a Toyota Highlander SUV (APP 150 EY) and a commercial T4 bus (KJA 328 XH).
According to preliminary reports, the Highlander, which was reportedly speeding, lost control and rammed into the commercial bus that was illegally parked while picking up passengers. The driver of the SUV died instantly.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrived swiftly at the scene, removed the victim from the wreckage, and handed over the body to police officers from Ojo Division, who later deposited it at the C-Niger Mortuary, Abule Ado. The accidented vehicles were also towed to the Ojo Police Division for further investigation.
The crash caused heavy traffic in the area, but LASTMA officers coordinated traffic flow until normalcy was restored.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the family of the deceased and cautioned motorists against speeding and reckless driving. He also condemned commercial bus operators’ habit of picking up passengers by the roadside instead of designated bus stops.
“The sanctity of human life must never be compromised by recklessness on our highways. We will continue enforcement and enlightenment campaigns to prevent avoidable tragedies,” Bakare-Oki said.
