Sanwo-Olu Declares Onboarding Retreat for Newly Elected LG, LCDA Chairmen Open

Lagos, Nigeria – August 8, 2025: The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, has commenced a two-day onboarding retreat for newly elected Local Government (LG) and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairmen and Vice Chairmen. The retreat, which began on Thursday, August 7, 2025, is themed “Driving Grassroots Development Through Strategic Governance.”

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat, declared the retreat open, urging the newly elected leaders to work collaboratively, share knowledge, and remain committed to the responsibilities they sought through public service. He encouraged them to develop comprehensive databases for their communities, act as worthy ambassadors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and uphold the trust of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Chairman of the Conference 57 League of Chairmen, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the opportunity to consolidate on governance knowledge. He assured that all Chairmen are prepared to deliver on their mandates, leveraging their proximity to the grassroots to address community needs and aspirations.

The retreat featured expert presentations on critical governance areas, including public procurement and due process compliance, effective communication for impactful leadership, preventing corruption in local government administration, and strengthening local security for effective policing and community safety.

Dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Roberts; Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon; Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje; Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa; and Mr. Ahmed Seriki, among others.
