Soludo Faults Politicians Over “Deceitful” One-Term Campaign Promises

Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has criticized politicians who campaign with pledges to serve only one term in office, describing the practice as deceptive and an insult to the intelligence of the electorate.

Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Soludo said such promises are often made to exploit zoning arrangements and manipulate voters with unrealistic manifestos that cannot be achieved even within multiple terms in office.

According to him, “When a process of zoning is established in a state, some politicians come with sweet promises, asking for votes on the condition that they will only serve one term. It is a clever tactic, but only for self-aggrandizement. They are not truly unfolding their real intentions.”

He recalled that during the 2017 governorship race, when his predecessor sought re-election, similar promises were made by some aspirants, but Anambra people overwhelmingly supported the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

With the November 2025 governorship election approaching, Soludo noted that the same tactics were resurfacing, particularly from politicians in Anambra South Senatorial District who were offering to serve just one term if elected.

“Some of the manifestos being presented are so unrealistic that even if the proponents spent 20 years in office, they would not scratch them,” Soludo said. “This is nothing but an attempt to play on the people’s intelligence. It is sheer deception, treating Ndi Anambra as if they are fools. Frankly, it’s a mental issue.”

The governor urged the electorate to remain vigilant and reject empty promises, stressing that leadership should be built on sincerity, capacity, and deliverable programs, not political gimmicks.
