 Soludo’s ANSEC Rates Anambra By-Elections “Excellent” as APGA Sweeps Polls

The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has hailed the conduct of the just-concluded by-elections in the state as excellent, commending security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring free, fair, and credible polls.

The elections, held to fill vacant seats in the Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North Constituency 1, were overwhelmingly won by the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which polled more than 64 percent of the votes cast.

Briefing journalists after ANSEC’s 18th meeting at the Light House, Awka, on August 18, 2025, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said the outcome of the elections was a strong indication of the people’s confidence in Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership and a pointer to the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

According to him, the professionalism of the Police, INEC officials, and other security operatives contributed to the credibility of the exercise, which allowed voters to “speak so loudly with their ballots.”

In Anambra South Senatorial District, Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA secured a landslide victory with 90,408 votes, defeating his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 19,812 votes. Similarly, APGA’s Barrister Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe won the Onitsha North Constituency 1 seat with 7,774 votes, further strengthening the party’s dominance in the State House of Assembly.

Analysts say the results reflect not just political maneuvering but decisive mandates that underscore genuine popular support for APGA’s administration.

Governor Soludo, in his congratulatory message, lauded the winners and described the elections as a credible reflection of the people’s will. He assured that his administration would continue to consolidate on its performance-driven governance to deliver more dividends of democracy to Ndi Anambra.
