Soludo’s ANSEC Approves ₦2.75bn Ugwuaku–Ibugughu–Osu–Umuchu Road Project

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, and members of the State Executive Council (ANSEC) have approved the construction of the Ugwuaku–Ibugughu–Osu–Umuchu Road at a contract sum of ₦2,754,734,086.72. The project was awarded to Benejaf International Limited.

The decision was taken during ANSEC’s 17th meeting held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Light House, Awka.

Announcing the development, the State Commissioner for Information, Sir Law Mefor, said the Council also approved other major infrastructure works, including the rehabilitation of the Amichi–Osumenyi Road, to be executed by the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) at a cost of ₦670,968,919.05, and the construction of the St. Stephen–Isiokwe Road, valued at ₦1 billion, to be handled by New Idea Construction Company Limited.

Mefor disclosed that the Council reaffirmed its commitment to completing the power project for the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC), a key component in the state’s industrialisation agenda. Other projects in progress include the construction of the Nri–Agbanabo–Nimo Road and the restoration of the historic name “Abakaliki Street” in Awka, which had been changed to Club Road in 2018.

According to the Commissioner, ANSEC reiterated Governor Soludo’s vision of fostering unity across the Southeast, noting his appointment of qualified Igbo professionals from other states to key positions in Anambra as a demonstration of pan-Igbo brotherhood.

Under Soludo’s leadership, Anambra has recorded significant progress in infrastructure development, with numerous road and flyover projects linking communities, modern drainage systems to curb flooding and erosion, and revitalisation of urban centres. In the health sector, the governor has been recognised as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare delivery both in the Southeast and nationwide.
