Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Reaffirms Commitment to Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence

As Lagos State marked its Annual Awareness Programme on the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), the Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Adetola Adunni Abubakar, has called for collective action to tackle the menace, describing it as a societal challenge that demands urgent and united response.

This year’s theme, “It Concerns Us All”, underscores the need for shared responsibility in combating abuse and discrimination.

In her message, Hon. Abubakar stressed that SGBV is not an issue restricted to individuals, homes, or communities, but a pervasive problem that undermines human dignity, shatters lives, and weakens the very fabric of society.

“Sexual and gender-based violence affects survivors, families, workplaces, and entire communities. Silence and indifference only allow the cycle of abuse to continue. Preventing SGBV is not the duty of a few — it is the responsibility of all,” she said.

She reaffirmed Agboyi-Ketu LCDA’s stance against all forms of abuse, pledging to strengthen policies, increase awareness, and work with partners, government institutions, and communities to build safe spaces for all, regardless of gender.

“Ending SGBV is possible, but it requires our courage, compassion, and collective action. Together, we can create a society where respect, safety, and dignity are the norm,” she added.

The Lagos State Annual Awareness Programme on SGBV serves as a platform to mobilize stakeholders, foster advocacy, and renew the commitment to eradicate violence in all its forms.
