DIG Abiodun Alabi Mourns Former IGP Solomon Arase, Calls Him a Mentor and Patriot

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Abiodun Sylvester Alabi fdc (Rtd) has expressed grief over the death of former Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, IGP Solomon Arase fdc, mni, describing him as “a good man, a true patriot, and a mentor.”

In a condolence statement issued on Sunday, Alabi said Arase’s passing is a monumental loss to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large.

“IGP Arase was not just a towering figure in the history of the Nigeria Police Force; he was a good man, a true patriot, and a mentor to many of us who had the honour of serving under and alongside him,” Alabi said.

The retired DIG hailed Arase’s leadership style, describing him as a visionary reformer who introduced professionalism, integrity, and community policing into the Force. He noted that Arase’s impact on institutional reforms continues to serve as a benchmark in modern policing in Nigeria.

“Even in retirement, his service as Chairman of the Police Service Commission reflected his unwavering commitment to building a stronger, more effective police institution,” he added.

Alabi extended condolences to the Arase family, the Nigeria Police Force, and Nigerians at large, praying for the peaceful repose of the late IGP’s soul.

“May his legacy continue to inspire generations of officers to come,” he concluded.

Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector General of Police, died on August 31, 2025. He is remembered for his reformist zeal and dedication to national service.
