Glo Renews Ofala Sponsorship, Reaffirms Commitment to Global Stage

Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage with the renewal of its sponsorship of the 2025 Ofala Festival in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The annual celebration, a traditional obligation of His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, will hold over two days — Iru Ofala on October 17 and Azu Ofala on October 18.

At a press conference held on Thursday at Ime Obi, Obi’s Palace, Onitsha, the Ofala Festival Organising Committee announced Globacom as the festival’s major sponsor. The company has been supporting the cultural event since 2011, citing its belief in Nigeria’s rich heritage and the potential of cultural festivals to create jobs, strengthen businesses, and boost revenue.

“Globacom is committed to pushing the future of Nigeria’s culture and tourism forward. Our support for Ofala is part of a broader belief that investment in culture yields returns beyond the balance sheet. It builds communities, creates jobs, and promotes local businesses and pride,” the company stated.

The telecoms operator also tied this year’s sponsorship to new customer-focused initiatives, including special packages for subscribers during the festival. It highlighted ongoing expansion and upgrades of its 4G LTE infrastructure across the South East to deliver improved voice and data services.

In addition, Glo recently introduced two new offerings — the Talkmasta plan, which gives extra talk time and data at no extra cost, and the Welcome Bonus, designed to reward new subscribers with unmatched benefits.

Chairman of the Strategic Marketing and Communications Committee, Mr. Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, outlined the full programme of events. These include the annual Ofala Lecture Series on October 7, the Oreze Art Exhibition, showcasing works by Nigerian and African artists, the Ofala Youth Carnival on October 15, a Medical and Wellbeing Outreach, the Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala ceremonies, and a Royal Banquet in honour of Igwe Achebe on October 22.

Maduegbuna assured visitors of adequate arrangements for security, comfort, and a world-class experience at this year’s festival. The press briefing was attended by senior palace chiefs and members of the organising committee.
