Ibeju-Lekki LG Launches Sensitization on House Numbering, GIS Mapping

The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has commenced a citizen sensitization campaign on systematic house numbering and Geographic Information System (GIS) integration as part of efforts to boost community development and enhance service delivery.

The awareness programme, held at the council secretariat on Friday, was flagged off by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa. He explained that proper house numbering and GIS mapping would address challenges such as delayed emergency response, poor utility distribution, and inefficient public services.

“This initiative aims to build a digital database of all land parcels, assign accurate street names and house numbers, and develop a modern township map to guide future planning,” Olowa said.

Participants at the event were taken through interactive sessions and live demonstrations of GIS applications. Technical expert, Dr. Yemi Odumosu, emphasized that GIS technology would support digital mapping, real-time data analysis, and integration with smart city systems.

Among the benefits of the initiative are faster emergency response, improved infrastructure planning, better governance through accurate data, and stronger prospects for economic growth.

The event was attended by key stakeholders including the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Olayinka; councillors; Chief of Staff, Mr. Issa Maruf Olayinka; Council Manager, Mr. Abiodun Oladipupo Otinwa; traditional rulers; industry leaders; artisans; and representatives of the Community Development Committee.
