Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Hosts 2025 Spelling Bee, Produces Representatives for Lagos State Finals

The Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence with the successful hosting of the 2025 edition of its annual Spelling Bee Competition.

The event, held on Wednesday, September 24, at the council secretariat, brought together pupils and students from public primary and secondary schools across the LCDA, who competed for the honour of representing the council at the Lagos State Spelling Bee finals.

Chairman of the LCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, who declared the competition open, commended the students for their brilliance and competitive spirit. He also praised teachers for their dedication and sacrifice, describing them as “true heroes shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”

Aroyewun, who proudly recalled his own public-school background, urged the participants to remain disciplined, pursue excellence, and steer clear of negative influences such as drug abuse. He further pledged special rewards for any contestant from Igbogbo/Baiyeku who excels at the state finals.

At the end of the contest, Olukoya David of U.A.M.C Primary School, Eleja, emerged winner in the primary school category, while Nwode Chiamaka of Zumuratul Islamiyyah Grammar School, Igbogbo, clinched the top spot in the secondary school category. Both winners will go on to represent the LCDA at the state-level competition.

Other winners included Odoh Godwill of L.G Primary School, Baiyeku (1st runner-up) and Azeez Abdulsamod of L.G Primary School, Igbe (2nd runner-up) in the primary category; as well as Okafor Blessings of Lagos State Civil Service Model School (1st runner-up) and Deniyi Olawunmi of Community Senior Grammar School (2nd runner-up) in the secondary category.

Chairman Aroyewun presented awards and gift items to the winners and assured continued support for educational programmes aimed at nurturing the intellectual growth of young people in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
