Ikeja Council Chairman, Akeem Dauda, Outlines Achievements on Lagos Traffic Radio

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (popularly known as AKOD), has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, youth empowerment, and improved security across Ikeja.

Dauda gave the assurance on Friday during a live programme on Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM, where he engaged residents on the theme of grassroots governance under the I.K.E.J.A. Agenda.

Speaking on the programme, which allowed listeners to call in, the council boss highlighted some of the strides recorded by his administration since assuming office. According to him, three new roads have already been flagged off within the local government, while plans are underway to establish a Neighborhood Security Outfit before the end of the year. He added that monthly security meetings would also be institutionalized to strengthen safety across Ikeja.

On education and empowerment, Dauda explained that his administration is paying attention to both formal and informal education, with a strong emphasis on youth development. He further disclosed that 30 new employees have been engaged to improve service delivery.

In addressing traffic challenges, the council chairman noted that two strategic meetings had been held with road transport workers and the Head of the State Traffic Division, with a view to proffering sustainable solutions to congestion within Ikeja.

Listeners who phoned into the programme commended Dauda for what they described as impressive achievements within a short period. One caller, however, raised concerns over the growing menace of drug abuse in the Ipodo and Sale Awori areas, lamenting its negative impact on young people. In response, Dauda assured that his administration would collaborate with relevant agencies to tackle the issue decisively and safeguard the future of Ikeja youths.

Reaffirming his administration’s vision, the council chairman pledged to deliver “Better Days” to the people of Ikeja through people-oriented governance, infrastructural renewal, and sustainable community programmes.

Dauda was joined on the programme by Alhaja Kofoworola Dosunmu, Head of Information Unit, Ikeja Local Government, and his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olalekan Oni.
