LASG Mandates Reflective Jackets for Nighttime Courier Deliveries

The Lagos State Government has made it mandatory for courier and dispatch riders to wear reflective jackets during evening and nighttime deliveries, as part of efforts to improve road safety and minimize accidents.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education and Innovation, Mr. Oluwatobi Idowu, disclosed that the directive was given by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa.

According to the directive, all riders operating between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. must wear reflective jackets, while delivery motorcycles and bicycles are to be fitted with reflective tapes or markers to enhance visibility on Lagos roads.

The government also urged delivery companies to sensitize their riders and ensure full compliance with the directive, warning that enforcement would be carried out by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS).

In response to the new policy, Glovo Nigeria has pledged full compliance. The company’s General Manager, Mr. Lamide Akinola, in a letter to the Ministry, commended the initiative, describing it as a vital step towards safeguarding riders and other road users.

Akinola revealed that Glovo is set to distribute 3,000 reflective jackets free of charge to couriers on its platform within the next month, while encouraging other operators to follow suit.

The Ministry of Transportation welcomed the move by Glovo and expressed readiness to sustain collaboration with courier companies to ensure a safer and more responsible delivery system across Lagos State.
