LASTMA Honours Pioneer CEO, Retired CP Yemi Odubela in Lagos
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has paid glowing tribute to its pioneer Chief Executive Officer and retired Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Yemi Odubela, in recognition of his foundational role in establishing the agency.
Led by its General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the LASTMA management team paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Odubela in Lagos, describing him as a visionary whose leadership laid the cornerstone for what has become one of Africa’s most respected traffic management institutions.
Bakare-Oki commended the former CEO for his courage, foresight, and dedication in building the agency’s operational philosophy around service, discipline, and innovation. He noted that the principles instituted by Mr. Odubela remain embedded in the agency’s culture and continue to guide its operations.
As part of the visit, the LASTMA boss presented Odubela with a commemorative Trooper-on-Bike Plaque, symbolizing vigilance, resilience, and commitment to public safety. He also offered prayers for the retired Commissioner’s health and long life.
Responding, Mr. Odubela expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as both a mark of institutional memory and a reminder of the continuity of service. He urged LASTMA officers to uphold integrity, professionalism, and dedication to duty, while avoiding actions that could tarnish the agency’s image.
The retired CP also praised the current leadership of Bakare-Oki for working tirelessly to restore LASTMA’s glory and strengthen its role in traffic administration and road safety. He further acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who as then-Governor of Lagos State, gave him the opportunity to establish the agency.
“I am profoundly elated to witness the Agency whose foundation I laid not only endure but ascend into becoming the foremost traffic management institution of reckoning within the Federation,” Odubela said.
The event ended on a celebratory note, highlighting LASTMA’s commitment to honoring its past while sustaining its mission of ensuring order, safety, and discipline on Lagos roads.
