Port Harcourt II Area Command Welcomes Comptroller Aliyu Alkali as 26th Customs Area Controller











The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area II Command, has officially welcomed Comptroller Aliyu M. Alkali as its new Customs Area Controller, following the handover from Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs (ACG) Mohammed Babandede, who has been promoted to higher duties. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the Onne Port.

The event, which drew stakeholders from across the maritime sector, was graced by the Zonal Coordinator, Zone C, ACG Kamal Mohammed, mni, the Customs Area Controller of Port Harcourt I Command, Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, heads of security and regulatory agencies, terminal operators, freight forwarders, and other industry representatives.

In his farewell address, outgoing CAC ACG Babandede expressed gratitude to officers of the Command, sister agencies, port management, and stakeholders for their support during his tenure. He highlighted the achievements recorded through synergy and cooperation, urging continued collaboration with his successor.

Speaking at the occasion, Zonal Coordinator ACG Kamal Mohammed described Babandede as a “distinguished leader whose tenure was marked by dedication, vision, and resilience.” He commended his outstanding service to the Command and wished him greater success in his new role.

Addressing Comptroller Alkali, the Zonal Coordinator reminded him of the weight of responsibility that comes with the position, while expressing confidence in his capacity to lead effectively. “We implore you to build on the solid legacies left behind by your predecessor, while bringing in fresh ideas and innovations that will advance the mission of the Service,” he charged.

In his acceptance speech, Comptroller Aliyu Alkali pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. He assured stakeholders of his commitment to consolidating on the achievements of his predecessor while focusing on trade facilitation, revenue collection, anti-smuggling operations, and public safety.

“My assignment is to ensure compliance with trade regulations, facilitate legitimate trade, generate revenue for the federal government, and safeguard the nation’s economy,” Comptroller Alkali stated. He called on all stakeholders to continue supporting the Command in sustaining its contribution to national development.

The ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Port Harcourt II Area Command, with stakeholders expressing optimism about improved collaboration and progress under Comptroller Alkali’s leadership.
