Primate Ayodele Commends FIRS Chairman, Warns Staff Against Corruption

Lagos, Nigeria – The Founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has cautioned staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) against acts of corruption that could undermine the agency’s operations, even as he commended the leadership of its chairman, Zacch Adedeji.

Speaking as part of his nation-building message, the cleric noted that the FIRS is strategically positioned to play a vital role in boosting Nigeria’s economy, provided its reforms are implemented with transparency and accountability.

Primate Ayodele warned that despite the chairman’s efforts, some employees may engage in practices capable of corrupting the system and frustrating the government’s tax reforms.

“The Federal Inland Revenue Service must be careful so that there will be no corruption in their system,” he said. “The chairman, Zacch Adedeji, is doing very well, but he may be disappointed if some of his officers engage in wrong activities that undermine his efforts.”

He stressed that taxation reform remains a critical agenda for the federal government and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to handle it carefully, noting that several interests were working against it.

“Taxation reform is a good agenda, but a lot of people want to frustrate it. If done properly, it will go a long way in improving Nigeria’s economy,” Ayodele added.

The cleric reiterated that the success of the FIRS in delivering on its mandate will depend largely on maintaining discipline within the system and insulating it from corruption.
