Soludo Inaugurates APGA Campaign Council, Vows to Sustain Anambra’s Development

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on Friday inaugurated the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) gubernatorial campaign council ahead of the November 8 governorship election, with a call for continued development and political stability in the state.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Awka, was attended by APGA leaders, political stakeholders, and top office holders across the state. Professor Osita Chukwudobelu was named Director-General of the campaign council, which will also have three key officers—chairman, co-chairman, and secretary—in each local government area.

Governor Soludo said his re-election bid was not about personal ambition but about advancing Anambra’s progress. “It is not about me as an individual but Anambra and Ndi Anambra,” he declared, adding that his administration would sustain project inspections and direct voter engagement throughout the campaign.

Reiterating his commitment to the state’s zoning arrangement, Soludo insisted that the governorship must complete its turn in Anambra South before rotating to other zones. “No one should disrupt the zoning formula in Anambra,” he said. “I can only hand over to a proper, full Anambra Central person, not someone married to an Anambra Central person.”

He also took a swipe at his opponents, questioning the credentials of some aspirants. “How can someone without a school certificate govern Anambra, the land of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ojukwu, Alex Ekwueme, and Chuba Okadigbo?” Soludo queried, alleging that one of his rivals was parading a fake doctorate degree.

The governor dismissed past crises within APGA as distractions, stressing that the party had emerged stronger and more united. He defended his recent appointments, describing Professor Kate Omenugha, the new Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, as “the best choice for the role.”

In his remarks, Chukwudobelu urged campaign council members to take Soludo’s message to every community in the state, emphasising that the campaign should focus on the governor’s vision and achievements.

APGA National Chairman, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, praised Soludo’s leadership, describing his touch as transformative. He expressed confidence that the November poll would be a “walkover,” citing results from the recent Anambra South senatorial by-election as proof of the party’s strength.

Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, assured full legislative backing for Soludo’s re-election, noting that the assembly was committed to policies that benefit the people. Similarly, Hon. Pascal Agbodike, representing Ihiala Federal Constituency, said the governor’s re-election was already “decided,” while confirming the support of all eleven federal lawmakers from the state.

APGA BOT member, Chief Ifeyinwa Obegolu, declared that Soludo faced “no competition,” highlighting achievements in health, education, and infrastructure. Former Governor Dame Virgy Etiaba and Ohaneze Secretary General, Chief Sibudu, also threw their weight behind the governor, with Sibudu stressing that any performing southern governor deserved Ohaneze’s support, regardless of party affiliation.

With endorsements from party leaders, lawmakers, and elder statesmen, the inauguration of the APGA campaign council signaled a united front as Governor Soludo seeks a second term in office.
