Two Injured, Three Rescued in Separate Road Accidents at Mile 2, Surulere

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed two serious injuries and three rescues in separate road crashes that occurred over the weekend at Mile 2 and Surulere.

At Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, a Toyota Camry with registration number FST 450 HG reportedly rammed into a stationary Scania truck (LSR 243 YC). LASTMA officials at the scene said the Camry driver and a passenger sustained severe injuries and were quickly taken to Ademola Hospital, opposite Ijanikin Police Station, for treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that excessive speeding led to the driver’s loss of control. LASTMA officers apprehended the truck driver, while police operatives from Ijanikin Division provided security. The wreckage was swiftly cleared to restore traffic flow.

In another incident at Stadium Hotel, Ojuelegba, Surulere, a white commercial Mazda bus (KRD 141 YH) crashed into the BRT lane median after reportedly suffering brake failure. The driver, who was unconscious at the time of rescue, and two passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital.

One of the survivors, Mrs. Aina Kadri, confirmed that the accident occurred after the bus lost its brakes at high speed. Fortunately, all three victims survived.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the quick response of officers and the Nigeria Police in managing the emergencies. He urged motorists to obey speed limits and carry out routine vehicle checks, stressing that over speeding and poor maintenance are major causes of avoidable crashes.
