Transportation Ministry Inaugurates Anti-Corruption Unit, Pledges Zero Tolerance for Graft

ABUJA — In a bid to strengthen transparency and accountability in government operations, the Federal Ministry of Transportation has inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, underscores the ministry’s commitment to institutional integrity and ethical governance.

Speaking at the event, the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Musa Ibrahim—represented by the Director of Special Duties, Dr. Vivian Nwosu—said the creation of the ACTU demonstrates the ministry’s resolve to ensure honesty, fairness, and accountability in public service.

“The ACTU Unit is set up to play a vital role in promoting compliance and preventing corruption within our ministry and its agencies,” Ibrahim stated. “They will be the champions of our integrity efforts, ensuring that our policies and procedures are implemented effectively while mitigating risks.”

He noted that the Unit will be responsible for designing and implementing anti-corruption strategies, developing a code of ethics, conducting staff enlightenment programmes, investigating corruption-related concerns, and working with stakeholders to promote a culture of integrity.

On behalf of ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, the Head of Systems Study and Review Division, Mr. Jude Okoye, described ACTU as an internal mechanism designed to identify systemic weaknesses and ensure adherence to ethical standards across ministries, departments, and agencies.

“ACTU will serve as a strategic instrument to support management in achieving its objectives,” Okoye said. “Its functions include conducting corruption risk assessments, examining organisational processes, and providing actionable solutions to address vulnerabilities.”

He stressed that ACTU operates under the direct oversight of the Permanent Secretary and complements management’s efforts rather than competing with them.

The newly appointed ACTU Chairman, Mr. Nasiru Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in the committee and pledged to lead with transparency, teamwork, and accountability. He urged colleagues across the ministry to cooperate with the Unit to achieve its mandate.

The Ministry further assured that ACTU members will be provided with resources, capacity-building opportunities, and access to relevant data to enable them to effectively carry out their functions.
