AIG Fayoade Moves to Curb Excessive Checkpoints Along Idi-Iroko Axis

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, mni, psc, has convened a high-level strategic meeting with operational commanders overseeing the Idi-Iroko, Imeko, and Aiyetoro corridors to address mounting concerns over the proliferation of checkpoints by various security agencies along the routes.

The meeting, held at the Zonal Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, was aimed at streamlining security operations to enhance efficiency, curb extortion, and end the reported harassment of motorists and residents.

Describing the current situation as “embarrassing,” AIG Fayoade stressed the need for professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights in the discharge of security duties. He urged officers to prioritize the protection of lives and property without subjecting citizens to unnecessary inconvenience.

The Zone 2 Police boss also called for greater synergy among security agencies and community stakeholders within the affected areas, noting that effective collaboration is essential to achieving trust, transparency, and credible policing outcomes.

To enforce compliance with operational standards, AIG Fayoade announced the immediate establishment of a Task Force to monitor, regulate, and supervise checkpoint activities. The special team is expected to ensure that all officers adhere strictly to laid-down procedures and maintain decorum while on duty.

He further directed senior officers to sensitize their subordinates on professionalism, discipline, and civility in dealing with the public.
