Eti-Osa Chairman Celebrates Young Scholars at Spelling Bee Competition
The spirit of academic excellence came alive at the Eti-Osa Local Government Secretariat as pupils and students from 20 schools gathered for an exciting Spelling Bee competition organized by the Council.
The event, which featured participants from 9 public primary schools and 11 senior secondary schools, showcased the brilliance, composure, and confidence of young learners in the area.
Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, Omo’ba Adeola Alimot Adetoro, in her opening remarks, lauded the students for their courage and dedication. She noted that the competition was designed to promote intellectual growth, healthy rivalry, and linguistic competence among young scholars.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders by investing in education and creating opportunities for students to shine beyond the classroom,” she said.
During the event, the Chairman also presented gifts to winners of a pre-contest spelling exercise, motivating the participants to give their best during the main competition.
At the end of the contest, the following students emerged as champions:
Primary Category:
- Sanni Amira – Jamatul Islamiyah Primary School (1st Place)
- Cicilia Moses – Ilasan Primary School (2nd Place)
- Ummi Jordan – Ikota Primary School (3rd Place)
Senior Secondary Category:
- Igbinedion Dara – Agbara Community Senior Secondary School (1st Place)
- Olabode Mercy Eyinjuoluwa – Ilasan Senior Secondary School (2nd Place)
- Bassey Favour Essien – Agbara Community Senior Secondary School (3rd Place)
The winners received awards and commendations from the Council leadership, while other participants were encouraged to continue developing their academic and communication skills.
In her closing remarks, Omo’ba Adetoro charged the top performers to be good ambassadors of Eti-Osa at the state level and to make the local government proud.
The event concluded with cheers, photographs, and renewed enthusiasm among students and teachers, reinforcing Eti-Osa’s position as a local government that prioritizes education and youth development.
