First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Unite for a Greater Nation at 65th Independence Anniversary
As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called on citizens to work collectively towards building a stronger and greater nation.
In a goodwill message titled “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”, the First Lady drew inspiration from the words of Lebanese poet, Gebran Khalil Gebran, and late U.S. President John F. Kennedy, reminding Nigerians that nation-building requires sacrifice, patriotism, and a sense of responsibility.
Quoting Gebran, she noted: “Are you a politician, asking what your country can do for you, or a zealous one, asking what you can do for your country? If you are the first, then you are a parasite, if the second, then you are an oasis in a desert.”
She also referenced Kennedy’s famous 1961 inaugural speech, urging Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of service and unity: “My fellow citizens, ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.”
Senator Tinubu stressed that the sacrifices of Nigerians in the collective effort to reposition the country would not be in vain, while expressing confidence in the nation’s ability to rise above its challenges.
“Let us all play our part to build the Nigeria we all want to see. Your sacrifice will never be in vain. Happy 65th Independence Anniversary. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she declared.
