LASG Announces Traffic Diversions for October Electric Powerboat Racing Championship

The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions around Victoria Island ahead of the Electric Powerboat Racing Championship (E1 Series), Africa’s first-ever electric powerboat race, scheduled for Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, 2025.

According to the state government, a total road closure will be enforced at the First Lekki Junction inward Ozumba Mbadiwe during the event, while alternative routes have been mapped out for motorists.

Diversion routes include:

• Motorists from Ajah heading to Lekki are to make a U-turn at the First Lekki Junction by the pedestrian bridge, link Yesufu Abiodun Road through Maroko Police Station, and access City of David to Ligali Ayorinde, Ajose Adeogun, and Eko Hotel Roundabout to connect Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and Onikan.
• Alternatively, Ajah-bound motorists can take Abraham Adesanya to Ogonbo Road, link Okun Ajah Road, and connect Coastal Road to Ahmadu Bello Way and Independence Bridge.
• Motorists from Lekki heading to Ikoyi or the Mainland are advised to use Admiralty Way through Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge to Alexander Road, Bourdillon, Gerrard, and Osborne Road.
• Another option for Lekki motorists heading to CMS is to connect Yesufu Abiodun through Oniru Road, Aboyade Cole, and Ligali Ayorinde to Eko Hotel Roundabout and Ahmadu Bello Way.
• Traffic from CMS/Independence Bridge and Ozumba Mbadiwe inward Lekki-Epe Expressway will flow directly toward Ajah and its environs.

The government assured motorists that adequate parking has been provided at designated points, including Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, and the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged road users to cooperate with Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials who will be deployed across the affected routes to ensure seamless movement.

He added that the Coastal Road would remain open to traffic during the two-day event.
