First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Visits Qatar National Library, Seeks Inspiration for Nigeria’s Modern Knowledge Hub
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism that the ongoing construction of the National Library of Nigeria will soon stand as a symbol of national pride — a modern, digitized hub of knowledge and history that will serve future generations.
Senator Tinubu stated this during a visit to the Qatar National Library in Doha, her first engagement upon arrival in the country. She described the facility as a model of excellence from which Nigeria could draw valuable inspiration as it works to complete its own national library project.
“The National Library of Nigeria, when completed, should not only serve as a repository of our nation’s history but also as a knowledge-building center for all Nigerians,” she said. “Our country is blessed with a rich and diverse cultural heritage, and it is essential that we properly document this for posterity.”
The First Lady emphasized the importance of creating reference points for young Nigerians to connect with their nation’s history and identity. She also commended the Qatar National Library’s motto — ‘Free Access to Knowledge’ — describing it as a vision worth emulating.
With a collection of over two million books and 500,000 e-books, the Qatar National Library, located in Education City, Doha, stands as one of the country’s most prestigious cultural landmarks.
Senator Tinubu’s visit to the library precedes her meeting with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, where she is seeking strategic partnerships to support Nigeria’s efforts in tackling the challenge of out-of-school children and reforming the Almajiri education system.
