FRSC, NAICOM Partner to Enhance Road Safety Through Digital Insurance Enforcement and Passenger Data Integration
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) have formed a strategic partnership to advance digital transformation in Nigeria’s road safety and insurance ecosystem through the enforcement of compulsory third-party motor insurance and the digitalisation of passenger manifest systems.
According to a statement made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the two agencies officially inaugurated a Joint Task Force to drive the initiative during a ceremony held on Tuesday at the NAICOM Headquarters, Abuja. The event was jointly presided over by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mni, and the Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin.
The collaboration, which underscores a new era of inter-agency synergy, aims to foster transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Nigeria’s road transport and insurance sectors. Key objectives of the initiative include enforcing compliance with third-party motor insurance, integrating FRSC and NAICOM databases for seamless information sharing, and digitalising passenger manifests to enhance safety, traceability, and crash response management.
Speaking during the inauguration, Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, commended the FRSC for its visionary leadership and commitment to safety reforms. He stated that the partnership would yield immense benefits to Nigerians, including effective enforcement, prompt compensation for crash victims, and increased public awareness of insurance obligations and consumer rights.
In his remarks, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed reaffirmed the FRSC’s readiness to support the initiative through technology-driven enforcement, data integration, and field operations. He described the partnership as a model of institutional collaboration that would not only reduce road crashes but also enhance the government’s capacity to provide immediate financial and medical support to accident victims.
Mohammed further noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises digital innovation, inter-agency cooperation, and inclusive socio-economic development.
By leveraging technology and collaboration, the FRSC/NAICOM Joint Task Force is expected to significantly reduce the number of uninsured vehicles on Nigerian roads, strengthen the welfare of road users, and promote a safer, more transparent, and accountable transport system across the nation.
