IBLCDA moves to establish Zumratul Primary School in Igbogbo

The Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA) has advanced plans for the establishment of a new public primary school within the premises of Zumratul Islamiyyah Grammar School, Igbogbo, as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to quality education across the community.

Chairman of IBLCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), who initiated the project, said the proposed school aligns with his administration’s GLORY Agenda — an acronym for Growth, Learning, Opportunity, Reform, and Youth Development.

On Thursday, October 9, 2025, a delegation from the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education conducted a site inspection of the proposed location, following an earlier visit by Chairman Aroyewun two weeks ago.

The inspection marks a major step toward securing state government approval for the establishment of the school, which will serve pupils from Igbogbo, Selewu, Agunfoye, Awobo, and nearby communities.

Aroyewun, while speaking during the visit, said the new school will help reduce the burden on existing public schools and ensure that children no longer have to travel long distances to access basic education.

“We are taking deliberate steps to make learning more accessible to our children,” he said. “Once the project is approved, construction will begin immediately, starting with a perimeter fence to guarantee safety and ensure a clear separation between the primary and secondary school sections.”

The proposed site, located within the Zumratul Grammar School compound, currently accommodates both senior and junior secondary schools. Officials from the ministry described the site as ideal due to its expansive layout, which allows for adequate planning of classrooms, administrative offices, playgrounds, and other learning facilities.

The Lagos State inspection team was led by Engr. Salam Adeniyi, and included Mrs. Adejoke Ogundiran, Mrs. Afolakemi Olayinka, Mrs. Oderinde Olukorede Aderinke, and Mr. Okunlade, all from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

They were joined by Mrs. Dally Modupe, Head of the Education Department, IBLCDA; Mrs. Badejo Yetunde, Vice Principal of Zumratul Junior School; and Mr. R. B. Lawal, Principal of Zumratul Senior Grammar School.

Members of the IBLCDA Legislative Council, led by Hon. Basirat Banjoko (Leader), also joined the inspection team, alongside Hon. Hakeem Solawon (Deputy Leader), Hon. Habib Anifowoshe (Majority Leader), Hon. Bello Yusuf (Deputy Majority Leader), Hon. Saidat Adeoba (Chief Whip), and Hon. Wasiu Olowu (Chief of Staff to the Chairman).

During the visit, the ministry officials commended the council’s initiative and pledged to expedite the documentation and approval process at the state level. They also emphasized the importance of maintaining proper demarcation between the primary and secondary sections to ensure discipline, safety, and effective administration.

In her remarks, Mrs. Dally Modupe praised Chairman Aroyewun for his proactive leadership and commitment to educational development, assuring that her department would work closely with the state ministry to ensure the timely delivery of the project.

Once final approval is secured from the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, construction is expected to commence immediately, beginning with fencing and foundational works.

The establishment of Zumratul Primary School, Igbogbo, underscores Chairman Aroyewun’s vision of inclusive growth and his administration’s dedication to improving education standards and equal learning opportunities for children across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
