Lagos Tourism Commissioner Showcases State’s Heritage Initiatives at EU Future Forum in Brussels

The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has highlighted the State Government’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage and sustainable development through tourism, creative arts, and entertainment at the 4th Future Forum held in Brussels, Belgium.

The event, organized by the European Union Global Diaspora Facility (EUDiF), took place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the ICMPD Brussels Mission. The annual forum serves as the EU’s flagship platform for advancing diaspora engagement for development, fostering peer-to-peer learning, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices among global partners.

Speaking during the Future Forum Capacity Development Lab – Institutional Partners Side Session, Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka underscored the Lagos State Government’s strategic focus on heritage preservation and the creative economy as powerful tools for cultural identity, youth empowerment, and economic growth.

She noted that under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Lagos has continued to implement initiatives that not only promote tourism but also position the State as a cultural and creative hub in Africa.

The Commissioner reaffirmed Lagos State’s readiness to deepen collaborations with international development partners and diaspora communities in driving inclusive cultural and economic advancement through tourism and the creative sector.
