 NNSS Ojo ’89 Alumni Donate 35 Laptops to Alma Mater to Mark 35th Anniversary

The 1989 set of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School (NNSS), Ojo, Lagos State, has donated 35 brand-new laptops to their alma mater to promote digital learning and technological advancement among students.

The donation was made on Saturday, October 4, 2025, during the alumni’s 35th anniversary reunion held at the Nigerian Navy Sports Complex, Navy Town, Ojo.

Speaking at the event, the President of the NNSS Ojo ’89 Set, Mr. Oluwafemi Awoyemi, praised the school for instilling in them discipline, academic excellence, and moral values that have shaped their lives and careers in the military and other professional fields.

Awoyemi said the reunion was not only a time to celebrate memories but also to reaffirm the enduring bonds of unity, brotherhood, and patriotism shared among members of the set.

“The laptops donation is our way of giving back to the institution that helped build us. We are passionate about equipping the students with 21st-century learning tools because the future belongs to those who are digitally prepared,” he said.

The Commandant of NNSS Ojo, Captain Nkari Ngaji Adeyemi, expressed appreciation to the alumni for their generous gesture, describing it as both inspiring and impactful.

“This donation is not only a boost to our digital learning drive but also a motivation for our students to emulate your spirit of giving back. You have demonstrated that NNSS Ojo continues to produce responsible and patriotic citizens,” she said.

Captain Adeyemi noted that the new laptops would complement earlier contributions from other alumni sets, including scholarships and educational aids, as part of the school’s ongoing drive toward excellence in teaching and learning.

Delivering his goodwill message, the Special Guest of Honour, Commodore Shehu Mohammed Tasiu, Commander of NNS WEY, lauded the alumni for their commitment to educational development, describing the donation as a model of partnership between citizens and institutions.

“The government cannot singlehandedly bridge the gaps in the education sector. Alumni engagement is a vital catalyst for institutional growth, and NNSS Ojo ’89 has set a worthy example,” he stated.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), Engr. Aderemi Adetunji, commended the ’89 set for their generosity and assured that the PTA would continue to strengthen collaboration with the alumni and school management to enhance student welfare.

The event featured various sporting and entertainment activities, including friendly competitions and award presentations, adding colour and excitement to the memorable celebration.
