Oluremi Tinubu Commissions Maternal, Child Hospital in Gombe, Reaffirms Commitment to Safe Motherhood
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reiterated that no mother should lose her life while giving birth, stressing that maternal and child health remain central to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of the 100-bed Senator Oluremi Tinubu Maternal and Child Specialist Hospital in Gombe, the First Lady said the project represents more than just physical infrastructure.
“The commissioning of this hospital is not just the unveiling of a building; it is the opening of doors to life, to hope, and to a healthier future for our mothers and our children,” she said. “Healthcare, especially maternal and child health, is at the heart of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to ensure that every Nigerian child has a healthy start in life, and that no mother dies while birthing life.”
Senator Tinubu expressed optimism that the facility would improve access to quality healthcare, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and bring relief to families within Gombe and beyond. She commended the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for constructing the hospital and driving Nigeria’s progress toward achieving global development targets.
The First Lady also commissioned the newly established ultra-modern College of Nursing and Midwifery in Gombe, where she interacted with excited students who welcomed her warmly.
She called on stakeholders in the health sector, including medical professionals, community leaders, and residents, to ensure the facilities are run with “excellence, compassion, and integrity” in order to serve their noble purpose.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu concluded her two-day visit to Gombe and has since returned to Abuja.
