Pivot Nigeria 2025: ‘Reframing the Lens’ Champions a Positive National Narrative

Lagos, Nigeria — October 7, 2025: A new national thought-leadership movement, Pivot Nigeria: Reframing the Lens, has been launched to reset the country’s reputation agenda and inspire a more balanced, authentic narrative about Nigeria.

Powered by HighStakes Public Relations Professionals (HighStakes PR Professionals), the initiative seeks to ignite conversations that promote pride, unity, and confidence among Nigerians, while encouraging citizens to take ownership of how their country is portrayed both locally and internationally.

The inaugural Pivot Nigeria Conference, themed “Reframing the Lens,” brought together a cross-section of thought leaders, innovators, journalists, entrepreneurs, and young Nigerians in Lagos to explore how collective storytelling can shape a stronger and more truthful image of the nation.

Convener of the conference, Victoria Uwadoka-Anyianuka, in her opening remarks, urged Nigerians to become “ambassadors of truth and optimism” by consciously portraying the country in a positive light.

“We are not here to complain or lament; we are here to reframe the lens through which we see ourselves as Nigerians,” she said. “Changing how others see us begins with how we present and represent ourselves. Our mission is to challenge the prevailing narratives, highlight authentic stories, and co-create a narrative that reflects Nigeria’s true identity.”

Throughout the day, discussions centered on themes such as culture as capital, who tells our story and why it matters, reconciling criticism with commitment, and the role of the media in changing the national narrative.

Veteran actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) spoke passionately about the paradoxes of Nigeria, describing it as both challenging and full of potential.

“Nigeria is a beautiful country. It can frustrate you, but it can also reward you with abundant opportunities,” RMD said. “We must go back to the drawing board to define who we are—because only when we understand ourselves can others truly see us.”

Founder and CEO of AfiaTV, Emeka Mba, underscored the power of storytelling in shaping perception.

“Who tells your story and how it is told is often how you are seen,” he noted. “Too often, outsiders define our story. We need inclusive national narratives, cultural diplomacy, and deliberate policies to rebuild trust and redefine how the world perceives Nigeria.”

Similarly, Rosemary Egabor-Afolahan, Director of Commercial and Communications at News Central TV, emphasized the responsibility of local media to reclaim and retell Nigeria’s story authentically.

“For too long, the Nigerian story has been filtered through fear and foreign bias,” she said. “At News Central TV, we made a choice—to change the narrative not by ignoring challenges but by contextualizing them and amplifying the voices that are too often silenced.”

During co-creation sessions, participants proposed actionable solutions, including: promoting indigenous storytelling, embedding civic education in school curricula, leveraging Nigeria’s creative industries as engines of soft power, enhancing accountability in governance, and expanding Pivot Nigeria’s reach through campus ambassadors and community chapters.

Media and creative leaders such as Nneka Isaac-Moses, Meche Isaac-Moses, Nina Anyianuka, Temitope Aina, and Nneamaka Nwadei also emphasized that storytelling is a vital tool for diplomacy, trade, and national cohesion.

Ultimately, Pivot Nigeria: Reframing the Lens calls on citizens, media houses, creatives, government institutions, and the private sector—both at home and in the diaspora—to use their platforms responsibly to reflect a more complete and balanced image of Nigeria.
