Truck Falls Off Oshodi Bridge, LASTMA Rescues Injured Victim, Restores Traffic Flow

A fully loaded six-tyre truck on Friday plunged off the Oshodi Bridge in Lagos after reportedly suffering a brake failure, leaving one person severely injured. Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly intervened, rescuing the victim and restoring traffic flow around the busy corridor.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck, with registration number AKD 135 YK, was descending from Oshodi-Oke inward Mile 2 when it lost control and veered off the bridge, tumbling into the terminal ditch below. The vehicle was said to be carrying several tonnes of printing materials at the time of the incident.

LASTMA officials arrived at the scene within minutes, rescuing a male victim who sustained serious injuries. The injured person was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

The truck driver was later apprehended and handed over to officers from the Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, for further investigation into the cause of the mechanical failure.

To ensure public safety and prevent secondary accidents, LASTMA operatives cordoned off the area, diverted traffic, and supervised the removal of the wreckage, leading to a swift restoration of normal vehicular movement in the area.

Commending the officers for their prompt and professional response, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, praised their dedication and adherence to safety protocols. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring safety and orderliness on Lagos roads, especially during the high-risk ember months.

Mr. Bakare-Oki disclosed that the agency has deployed heavy-duty recovery trucks and over 2,700 personnel across the state’s five administrative divisions to guarantee 24-hour traffic management and rapid emergency response.

He urged motorists to prioritize regular vehicle maintenance, remain alert while driving, and comply with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road mishaps.
