 Lagos Police Command Mourns Death of Festac DPO, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye

The Lagos State Police Command has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye.

CSP Ngbaronye reportedly passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, after undergoing surgery. Her untimely death has left deep sorrow across the police community, her colleagues, and residents of Festac Town, where she served with distinction.

Until her death, CSP Ngbaronye was widely admired for her professionalism, discipline, and people-oriented approach to policing. Her career in the Nigeria Police Force, which began on April 19, 2010, as a member of Course 1 of 2010, was marked by consistent excellence and commendable service.

Over the years, she served in several strategic capacities, including Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO) of the Lagos State Police Command, DPO of Ilupeju Division, DPO of Iponri Division, Forensic Officer at the State CID, Panti, and Secretary to the then Lagos Commissioner of Police, AIG Hakeem Odumosu (retd.).

Known for her amiable disposition and professionalism, CSP Ngbaronye earned several awards and recognitions both locally and internationally. She was described by many as an exemplary officer who bridged the gap between the police and the public through her humane and approachable leadership style.

In an official statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command expressed deep sorrow over her demise.

“CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye was known for her diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty. Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served. At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities,” the statement read.

SP Adebisi added that the news of her passing came as “a rude shock” to the Command.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohunda Jimoh, and all officers and men of the Command commiserate with her family and aged mother on this irreparable loss. The CP has personally reached out to her husband and elder brother, who is a priest, to extend the Command’s heartfelt condolences and support during this difficult time,” the statement added.

Details of her burial arrangements, according to the Command, will be announced in due course.

CSP Matilda Ngbaronye will be remembered as a gallant, elegant, and dedicated officer who served the Nigeria Police Force and humanity with unwavering professionalism and integrity.
