Anambra Unveils Mega “Onwan Dezemba” Christmas Fiesta to Boost Tourism and Festive Excitement

Anambra State is set to host one of Nigeria’s most spectacular Christmas celebrations as the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), led by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has approved a grand yuletide programme themed “Onwan Dezemba.”

The approval was reached during the 23rd ANSEC meeting held on Monday, 17 November 2025, at the Light House, Awka, where the council also deliberated on other key development priorities.

Announcing the plan, the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said the Christmas fiesta aims to deliver an unforgettable festive season for residents and visitors, turning Anambra into a major December destination.

“This is to make Christmas unlike any other,” Mefor said, noting that the activities will take place at Solution Fun City, Awka, the newly reconstructed Ekwueme Square, and several other recreational parks across the state.

 

Masquerades, Carols, Concerts and More

Dr. Mefor revealed that the “Onwan Dezemba” celebration will feature a rich blend of cultural and entertainment activities, including:

• Masquerade festivals
• Christmas carol events
• Musical concerts featuring famous Nigerian artistes
• Community entertainment parades
• Family-oriented funfair programmes

The events are expected to draw large crowds, stimulate local commerce, and promote tourism across the state.

Solution Fun City: Soludo’s Flagship Entertainment Landmark

A major highlight of the celebration will be the Solution Fun City, Anambra’s new world-class entertainment and relaxation hub. The facility includes:

• A state-of-the-art cinema
• Waterpark with six swimming pools
• Children and family play zones
• Indoor arcade
• Country club facilities

Mefor described the facility as a key component of Governor Soludo’s strategy to position Anambra as a lifestyle and tourism destination.

Governor Soludo echoed this vision, describing the project as transformational:

“This is a fun city like no other; there are no comparable facilities in the world. Anambra will now be seen as a destination hub, not just a departure lounge.”

He added that the current development is only the beginning of a massive plan to build the largest fun city in the world in Anambra State.

Economic Boost and Job Creation

The governor said the initiative will provide a major boost to Anambra’s economy through job creation, increased visitor traffic, and expanded commercial activities during the festive season.

Many youths and artisans have already been recruited and trained to support the operations at Solution Fun City, reinforcing Soludo’s agenda to transform Anambra into the Dubai–Silicon Valley of Nigeria, where innovation, leisure, and economic growth thrive.
