The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has set a new national record after generating ₦304 billion in October 2025 — the highest monthly revenue ever collected by any customs command in the country’s history.

The figure surpasses the ₦264 billion collected in October 2024 and brings the command’s total revenue for the first ten months of 2025 to ₦2.4 trillion, effectively exceeding its total collection for the entire 2024 fiscal year with two months still remaining.

Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, described the performance as a landmark achievement and a testament to the commitment of officers, port users, and other stakeholders. He said the feat signals “the beginning of greater revenue exploits” under his leadership.

According to him, the command’s renewed operational strategies and adoption of technology-driven trade facilitation tools have placed it on course for even higher collections in the months ahead.

“The latest revenue feat is an initial proof of our readiness to process higher volumes of trade, which will translate to greater revenue for the government,” Oshoba said.

He explained that officers and men of the command have been adequately sensitized ahead of the introduction of Drive-Through Scanning, a system designed to process an average of 150 containers per hour directly from the quayside — a first-of-its-kind innovation in West Africa.

Oshoba also revealed that recently promoted Deputy and Assistant Comptrollers have undergone intensive in-house training to align with the directives of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.

He emphasized the command’s commitment to trade facilitation, revenue integrity, and anti-smuggling efforts, noting that all tools of efficiency, including the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) initiative, are being fully deployed to streamline customs processes.

“We have a zero-compromise stance in the application of demand notices (DN) for the recovery of shortfalls and are very vigilant against attempts to misapply Harmonised System (HS) codes for duty evasion,” he stated.

The Comptroller further disclosed that he has embarked on unannounced visits to port access roads to engage truckers, freight forwarders, and licensed customs agents on the need to support the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) by prioritising the evacuation of cleared consignments.

“I have also met with the Port Manager to strengthen collaboration towards improving efficiency. When cleared consignments are not promptly evacuated, it slows down examination and scanning of new cargoes, which directly affects trade and revenue performance,” Oshoba said.

He urged all stakeholders to sustain their cooperation with the NCS, stressing that collective effort remains key to consolidating and surpassing the command’s current achievements in revenue collection and trade facilitation.
