Dangote Group Reaffirms Commitment to Zambia’s Economic Transformation

Lusaka, Zambia — The President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to Zambia’s economic growth and industrial development during a courtesy visit to President Hakainde Hichilema at State House.

The visit underscored the conglomerate’s ongoing support for Zambia’s national development agenda and its determination to deepen investment across key sectors including manufacturing, energy, and agriculture.

Since its establishment in Zambia, Dangote Cement Zambia Limited (DCZL) has stood as the country’s largest manufacturing investment, with a project outlay exceeding USD 500 million. Commissioned in 2015, the 1.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) integrated cement plant in Ndola features a 30 MW captive power plant and a robust fleet of over 400 trucks to ensure efficient nationwide distribution.

The company’s entry has transformed Zambia from a net importer to a leading exporter of cement within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. To date, DCZL has sold over 8 million tonnes of cement and continues to dominate the market in quality and reliability. Its flagship product, Dangote 3X Cement, was recently named Runner-up Product of the Year 2025 by the Zambian Association of Manufacturers (ZAM). The company has also won Exporter of the Year awards from both ZAM and the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) for three consecutive years (2021–2023).

Currently, Dangote Cement Zambia directly employs over 1,200 workers and supports another 5,000 indirectly through logistics, engineering, and local supply chains. The company sources all raw materials locally, ensuring that value creation remains within Zambia’s economy.

In line with its sustainability agenda, Dangote Cement has made major strides in environmental protection by replacing over 30% of fossil fuels with alternative sources such as used tyres, municipal waste, plastics, sawdust, and corn cobs. The company is certified by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) to safely dispose of hazardous waste and has earned multiple awards for environmental leadership and sustainable manufacturing.

President Hichilema commended the Dangote Group for its “outstanding contribution to Zambia’s industrial growth and export capacity,” urging the company to continue collaborating with the Government and private sector to address the nation’s energy challenges.

In response, Aliko Dangote reaffirmed the Group’s readiness to align with Zambia’s developmental priorities, especially in energy diversification, agriculture, and climate action. He noted Zambia’s immense potential for climate-smart and irrigation-based agriculture, highlighting the Group’s interest in solar and thermal power generation to help ease energy shortages in both Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Dangote further revealed plans to explore Zambia’s mineral and coal resources for sustainable energy solutions, emphasizing that the company’s 30 MW captive power plant already contributes 8 MW of electricity back to the national grid through the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC).

President Hichilema welcomed the renewed commitment, affirming that Zambia was ready to strengthen partnerships with the Dangote Group to drive industrialization, energy resilience, and job creation.

These efforts align with the Government’s 8th National Development Plan (2022–2026), which prioritizes manufacturing, energy, and agriculture as key pillars for sustainable economic growth.

Through sustained investment, innovation, and strategic collaboration, the Dangote Group continues to play a pivotal role in Zambia’s industrial transformation and regional economic integration.
