Fidelity Bank Donates Boats, Relief Materials to Makoko Community

…Supports Orphanage, Schools under Staff-Led CSR Initiative

In a remarkable act of corporate social responsibility, Fidelity Bank Plc has brought hope to residents of the Makoko waterfront community in Lagos with the donation of boats, educational supplies, food items, and other relief materials.

The initiative, driven by the Achievers Inductees Class of 2025 under the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP)—the bank’s staff-led CSR platform—reflects the institution’s sustained commitment to improving lives and empowering local communities. Through the FHHP, Fidelity Bank employees identify pressing needs in their environments, raise funds, and receive matching support from the bank’s management to execute life-changing projects.

Speaking during the donation, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank Plc, reiterated the bank’s resolve to drive sustainable community development.

Our commitment goes beyond banking; it is about improving lives, supporting education, and creating opportunities for growth. This donation reflects our dedication to nurturing the next generation and contributing to a better, more sustainable future,” he said.

Appreciating the gesture, the traditional leader of Makoko, Baale Shemede Emmanuel Ajakaekun, commended Fidelity Bank for remembering the community.

“We are grateful that Fidelity Bank came down here to support us. May their work continue to flourish, and may God lift them higher. We hope they will not forget us but come back again to support our people,” the Baale said.

Also expressing gratitude, Shemede Taiwo, Proprietor of Part of Solution Orphanage, Nursery and Primary School, described the intervention as transformational for the children and residents.

“Many children here struggle to attend school because boats are expensive to build or hire. Fidelity Bank’s donation will make a huge difference in ensuring our children get to school safely while improving the welfare of our residents. We truly appreciate this gesture,” he said.

Through the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme, the bank continues to empower communities nationwide by addressing key social challenges in education, health, and welfare. The Makoko outreach follows a similar intervention at the Old People’s Home in Yaba, Lagos, reinforcing Fidelity Bank’s belief that sustainable development begins with genuine care for people and their environment.
