In a strategic move to further fortify Lagos State’s security framework, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has appointed Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan as the new Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

The appointment, which took effect on Friday, October 31, 2025, marks the beginning of a five-year tenure for Dr. Ogunsan, a distinguished entrepreneur, educationist, public administrator, and security expert.

Before his elevation, Dr. Ogunsan served on the LSSTF Board of Trustees, where he played a key role in shaping several landmark initiatives that enhanced the operational capacity of security agencies in Lagos. His appointment, according to observers, reflects the Sanwo-Olu administration’s resolve to sustain the momentum of safety and security improvements across the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his confirmation statement, praised Dr. Ogunsan’s “excellence, integrity, and dedication to public service,” describing him as a tested leader whose vast experience would “drive the LSSTF to greater heights.”

Dr. Ogunsan is widely known for his advocacy of public-private partnerships in security management — an approach that aligns with LSSTF’s founding philosophy of collaborative security financing. His leadership is expected to bring renewed innovation and efficiency to the Fund’s operations.

The Governor also expressed profound gratitude to the outgoing Executive Secretary, Hon. Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, for his decade-long service and visionary leadership. He lauded Dr. Balogun for his “formidable and invaluable contributions” to the development and success of the LSSTF, wishing him continued success in his future endeavours.

Dr. Balogun’s tenure is widely regarded as a defining era in the Fund’s history. A former lawmaker who championed the bill establishing the LSSTF, he went on to lead the agency for over 10 years, driving significant achievements — from improved logistics support for security agencies to expanded corporate partnerships and enhanced operational efficiency.

Under his leadership, the LSSTF became a model for sustainable security funding in Nigeria.

As Dr. Ogunsan steps into his new role, stakeholders in both the security and business sectors have expressed optimism that his appointment will deepen collaboration between government and the private sector, ensuring that Lagos remains one of the safest states in the federation.
