Lastma, Katsina traffic authority strengthen ties through operational study visit

In a bold demonstration of inter-state cooperation and knowledge exchange, a delegation from the Katsina State Safety and Road Traffic Authority (KASSAROTA) has undertaken a two-day operational working visit to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.

The high-powered delegation, led by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of KASSAROTA, Major General Garba Yahaya Rimi (Rtd), was in Lagos to understudy the operational structure, enforcement strategies, and administrative framework that have positioned LASTMA as a national model in urban traffic management.

Welcoming the visitors, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the initiative, describing the visit as a testament to LASTMA’s growing reputation as a benchmark institution in traffic control and management within Nigeria and across Africa.

He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to building a sustainable, technology-driven, and citizen-focused traffic management system that promotes safety, mobility, and public order across the metropolis.

Bakare-Oki emphasized that LASTMA’s success is rooted in continuous capacity development, strong inter-agency collaboration, community engagement, and the integration of smart technologies for real-time traffic monitoring.

In his remarks, Major General Rimi (Rtd) applauded LASTMA’s professionalism and innovative approach, noting that the experience gained from the visit would significantly enhance KASSAROTA’s operational effectiveness and help improve traffic administration in Katsina State.

He further expressed appreciation for the warm reception and technical support provided by the agency’s management, while calling for sustained partnerships and technical collaboration between both institutions to advance road safety and efficiency nationwide.

The Katsina team toured key LASTMA facilities, including the Digital Complaint Centre, the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics, as well as operational units where they were introduced to Traffic Management Solutions (TMS) and drone-assisted traffic surveillance systems.

The two-day visit featured technical briefings, interactive sessions, and strategy discussions on institutional strengthening, traffic data analytics, public enlightenment, and enforcement mechanisms — all designed to enhance knowledge sharing and operational synergy.

With initiatives such as this, LASTMA continues to serve as a beacon of institutional excellence, setting operational and policy standards that inspire replication across states, thereby reaffirming Lagos State’s leadership in advancing modern traffic management practices in Africa.

Members of the Katsina State delegation included Abubakar Marwana (Public Relations Officer), Aminu Lawal Rabiu (State Secretary), and Dahiru Bagiwa (State Commandant), alongside other senior officials.
