Multi-Vehicle Crash at Otedola Inward Tollgate Injures Four, LASTMA Rescues Eight-Month-Old Baby

An early-morning multi-vehicle collision at Otedola, inward Tollgate on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, left four pedestrians severely injured on Thursday, while an eight-month-old baby strapped to one of the victims miraculously survived without a scratch.

The accident involved four vehicles — a Hydra truck (APP 261 FA), an LT commercial bus (EPE 574 YC), a Ford vehicle (GG 283 XQ) and an unregistered Mark flat-body truck.

According to preliminary reports from security personnel, the injured pedestrians were attempting to cross the expressway when an LT commercial bus, reportedly speeding excessively, rammed into them. The impact triggered a chain reaction that caused the other vehicles to crash.

LASTMA officers, in a swift rescue operation, successfully freed the infant who emerged unhurt despite the severity of the crash. The four injured adults were immediately attended to and transported to the Lagos State Accident & Emergency Centre near Tollgate for urgent treatment.

Police officers from the Alausa Division provided support during the rescue operation, ensuring safety and maintaining order at the accident scene.

LASTMA officials also cleared all damaged vehicles from the road to restore traffic flow and prevent gridlock along the busy corridor.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy to the victims and wished them a quick recovery. He also cautioned pedestrians to use designated pedestrian bridges, stressing that crossing high-speed expressways remains a life-threatening and unnecessary risk.
