One Killed, Two Injured as Trailer Loses Brake, Crushes Tricycle at Ekoro Junction

Lagos, Nigeria — A fatal multi-vehicle crash at Ekoro Junction inward Ile-Iwe, Lagos, has claimed the life of a tricycle operator, leaving two others seriously injured. The accident occurred after a six-tyre trailer, reportedly loaded with goods, suffered a brake failure and rammed into several vehicles.

According to preliminary reports, the trailer (registration number AGL 514 XD) lost control and crushed an unregistered tricycle before colliding with a Honda Pilot (FST 992 DV) and vaulting across the road median into a Toyota Camry (EKY 753 JA) and nearby property.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were said to have arrived swiftly at the scene, rescuing two victims who were trapped in the wreckage. The tricycle operator was confirmed dead on the spot.

LASTMA officials immediately cordoned off the area to prevent further accidents, while officers from the Ile-Epo Police Division evacuated the deceased and the injured victims to the General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for medical treatment and proper documentation.

During the rescue operation, traffic was diverted through Iyana-Meran via Ajasa Command to ease congestion. The affected vehicles were later towed to the Ile-Epo Police Station for investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the crash as “tragic and avoidable,” stressing that regular vehicle maintenance and adherence to speed limits could prevent such occurrences.

He extended condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured victims.

Bakare-Oki reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to road safety and strict enforcement of traffic regulations, urging motorists—especially operators of heavy-duty vehicles—to conduct routine mechanical checks and drive responsibly.
