Oyo State Government Set to Launch Digital System for Building Plan Approvals

In a major step toward modernizing urban management and promoting transparency, the Oyo State Government has announced plans to fully digitalize the building and survey plan approval process across the state.

The development was revealed on Monday by the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Williams Akin-Funmilayo, during a meeting with all zonal directors of town planning offices held at the ministry’s conference room in Ibadan.

Hon. Akin-Funmilayo described the initiative as a landmark reform in infrastructural regulation, designed to eliminate leakages, irregularities, and corruption often associated with manual operations in building approval processes.

According to him, the new digital building plan approval system will be fully automated, transparent, and traceable, featuring advanced security measures such as a unique barcode that generates and validates every approved document.

“This innovation marks the end of inefficiency and compromise within the town planning system,” Akin-Funmilayo stated. “The present administration will no longer tolerate excuses but expects results that reflect the government’s commitment to modernization.”

The commissioner charged task forces and enforcement departments under the Physical Planning Authority to intensify monitoring efforts and clamp down on developers who violate planning regulations or disregard approved construction standards.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting lives and properties through strict compliance with urban development laws, stressing that the digital system would simplify processes for residents and investors alike.

“Citizens will now be able to apply for and process building approvals from anywhere in the world,” he explained. “This will save time, eliminate intermediaries, and completely remove the need for backdoor dealings.”

Hon. Akin-Funmilayo urged property owners and developers to support the initiative by adhering strictly to planning laws, assuring that the new system would be user-friendly, efficient, and corruption-free.
