Senate Confirms Idris Olorunnimbe as Chairman of NCC Board

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe as the Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), following a successful screening exercise conducted by the Senate Committee on Communications.

Also confirmed were Maryam Bayi (North East), Senator Ramoni Olalekan Mustafa (South West), and Ikechukwu Ugwuegede (South East), who will serve as Commissioners on the NCC board.

In addition, Princess Oforitsenere Emiko and Christopher Sandy Okorie, both representing the South-South zone, were ratified as board members.

They join the Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida (North West); Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, Engr. Abraham Oshadami (North Central); and Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Rimini H. Makama (North Central), who had earlier been confirmed to serve on the board.

According to a statement signed by Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, Head of Public Affairs at the NCC, the confirmation of the new board members marks the full constitution of the Commission’s governing board. She noted that the leadership team is now well-positioned to strengthen regulatory oversight, promote innovation, and enhance governance in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.

The Nigerian Communications Commission remains the country’s primary regulatory authority for the telecom sector, ensuring effective policy implementation and fostering sustainable growth within the industry.
