Soludo, Wife Vote in Anambra Election, Describe Exercise as Peaceful — APGA Takes Early Lead

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Nonye Soludo, on Saturday cast their votes at Ofiyi Polling Unit 002 in Anambra State during the ongoing governorship election.

The couple arrived at the polling centre in the early afternoon to exercise their civic responsibility, demonstrating their commitment to participatory democracy.

According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo and his wife were warmly received by electoral officials and enthusiastic supporters. After undergoing verification and authentication, they cast their votes peacefully, underscoring the importance of active citizen participation in shaping the state’s future.

Speaking after voting, Governor Soludo commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its organization and the smooth conduct of the election. He described the atmosphere as peaceful and encouraging, noting that reports from various polling units across the state indicated minimal disruptions and a commendable turnout of voters.

“We are witnessing a true expression of democracy today. It is heartening to see citizens coming out to exercise their right to vote in such a peaceful environment,” the governor said. He urged all eligible voters to participate actively, emphasizing that every vote counts in determining the state’s future direction.

The governor, however, hinted at reports of vote buying, particularly in Nnewi South, while expressing optimism that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), would emerge victorious when the final results are announced.

Reports from election observers also confirmed that voting was generally peaceful and well-coordinated across many parts of the state, with voters expressing confidence in a fair and credible process.

Governor Soludo reaffirmed his commitment to a transparent and law-abiding electoral process, stressing that the integrity of the election must be upheld.

Meanwhile, early results trickling in from several polling units suggest that APGA is taking an early lead, although official results from the Independent National Electoral Commission are still being awaited.
