ADC Selects Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam as Osun Governorship Candidate for 2026
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected Rt. Hon. Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam as its governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election following a peaceful and transparent primary conducted on Tuesday.
The primary election, held with party members drawn from across the state, was widely described as orderly, credible and well coordinated. Delegates freely expressed their preferences in an atmosphere that underscored openness and internal democracy, with no reports of imposition or irregularities.
Party officials said the process reflected the ADC’s commitment to participatory politics and democratic values, noting that the outcome reaffirmed the party’s belief that leadership should emerge through the collective will of its members.
With Salaam’s emergence, the ADC believes it is tapping into a growing public sentiment in Osun State, where many citizens are increasingly dissatisfied with politics driven by personal interests rather than public good. Party supporters at the venue described the development as a signal of renewed hope and a shift towards leadership anchored on accountability, competence and service.
The ADC has outlined policy priorities centred on social welfare and inclusive development. Key areas include the restoration and expansion of free school feeding programmes, youth employment and empowerment initiatives, strengthened social investment schemes, and comprehensive rural and urban renewal projects aimed at improving livelihoods and stimulating local economic growth.
As the countdown to the 2026 governorship election begins, party leaders say the ADC is positioning itself as a credible alternative in Osun State. They expressed confidence that the combination of the party’s agenda and Salaam’s candidacy would resonate with voters seeking people-centred governance and sustainable development.
