Iyesi-Ota, Ogun State — The Christian community in Iyesi Ota and beyond is abuzz as Bishop Tom Samson, Founder and General Overseer of Christ Royal Family International Churches, prepares to celebrate his 60th birthday with a week-long programme highlighted by the official commissioning of Monarch University.

In an exclusive conversation with select journalists ahead of his December 13 milestone, the revered preacher, education advocate, and proprietor of several institutions shared insights into his journey, ministry, and upcoming celebrations.

Bishop Samson, who also serves as Proprietor and Chancellor of Monarch University, said the anniversary activities would begin on December 7, featuring thanksgiving events, special services, and the formal launch of Monarch University in Lagos. The date coincides with the 34th anniversary of Christ Royal Family International Churches, established on December 13, 1991.

A major highlight of the celebration is a public lecture titled “The Role of Religion in Education,” to be delivered by Prof. Abiola, Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Lagos. The event is scheduled to hold at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, and will attract leading clerics including PFN President Bishop Wale Oke and Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo.

The week of activities will also include a major camp meeting at Iyana Iyesi, Ota, where guests will be offered free feeding, accommodation, and medical services. The Ogun State Governor, his deputy, the Olota of Ota, Oba Tejuosho, and the Olowu of Owu are among dignitaries expected to grace the event.

Reflecting on his passion for education, Bishop Samson said his academic background and childhood experiences shaped his drive to establish quality schools and institutions grounded in moral values. He emphasised the role of education in youth development, noting that Monarch University is designed to instill academic excellence and godly principles.

The bishop recounted his humble beginnings, arriving in Lagos decades ago “with one shirt and one trouser” before growing his ministry into a global network with branches in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Houston. He attributed his success to faith, obedience, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, insisting that patience and discipline remain essential for young people aspiring to succeed.

Speaking on national issues, Bishop Samson expressed concern over Nigeria’s security challenges, urging pastors, the media, and political leaders to take bolder stands in addressing the situation. He called for prayers and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and emphasised the need for synergy between the presidency and the National Assembly.

On disunity within the Christian community, he attributed the issue to doctrinal differences but noted that collaboration among denominations has improved in recent years, citing the collective support that built the PFN Secretariat.

As preparations heighten for his 60th birthday, the clergyman said he remains grateful for divine grace, the support of his congregation, and the opportunity to continue impacting lives through ministry, education, and philanthropy.
