Customs, NDLEA Intercept 1,187kg of Canadian Loud Concealed in Vehicles at Apapa Port

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 1,187kg of Canadian Loud — a high-grade strain of cannabis — concealed inside imported vehicles at the Apapa Port in Lagos.

The joint operation comes just five days after both agencies uncovered 25.5kg of cocaine aboard a Brazilian-flagged vessel, marking yet another major breakthrough in their intensified crackdown on drug trafficking through Nigeria’s busiest port.

Acting on credible intelligence provided by the NDLEA, officers of both agencies carried out a detailed examination of a 1×20ft container (FCIU 6369526) loaded with two vehicles. Inside the container, they discovered 2,374 sachets of cannabis packed in 55 bags, each sachet weighing 500 grams.

The illicit substances have since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.

Speaking on the seizure, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, Customs Area Controller of the Apapa Command, commended the synergy between the NCS and the NDLEA, reaffirming the Service’s unwavering stance against smuggling.

“Few days ago, I stated that no consignment will exit our control without due checks,” he said. “Our synergy as government agencies continues to put us ahead of criminal elements. No matter the volume of trade we are processing, we will never sacrifice national security for any form of trade.”

Oshoba warned importers, exporters, freight forwarders and clearing agents against attempting illicit activities as the year winds down, stressing that anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.

Investigations into the latest drug interception are ongoing.
