Fidelity Bank Donates Firefighting Equipment to Ikoyi Fire Service, Promotes Sustainable Safety Practices
Fidelity Bank Plc has strengthened its commitment to community safety and environmental sustainability with the donation of firefighting and fire-prevention equipment to the Ikoyi Fire Service Station, Lagos.
The donated items include fire hoses and gasoline-powered water pumps, aimed at boosting the station’s emergency response capacity, particularly during the dry season when fire outbreaks are more prevalent.
The intervention was carried out under the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP) by the Bank’s True Serve team. The FHHP is a staff-driven initiative that enables employees to identify critical community needs, raise funds, and receive matching financial support from the Bank to implement impactful social projects.
Speaking on the donation, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications Division, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative underscores the Bank’s commitment to public safety, environmental protection, and sustainable community development.
“Fidelity Bank remains committed to supporting initiatives that protect lives, property, and the environment. Community safety is a shared responsibility, and we will continue to support efforts that strengthen emergency preparedness and response,” Nwagboh said.
He added that the Bank places strong emphasis on preventive measures, noting that early intervention and adequate equipment are critical to reducing fire-related losses.
“We believe preventive actions are far more effective than reactionary responses. By providing essential tools, we are promoting sustainable safety practices and ensuring that communities can live safer and more empowered lives,” he stated.
Also speaking, the Lagos State Controller, Federal Fire Service, and Controller of Fire, CF Funke Adebayo, commended Fidelity Bank for the timely donation, especially as the festive season coincides with dry weather conditions that increase fire risks.
She urged residents to exercise caution, particularly with the use of fireworks, and advised parents to properly guide children during celebrations.
“We appreciate Fidelity Bank for this timely support. This is a critical period when fire incidents can escalate rapidly. Fire should never be handled carelessly, and families must remain vigilant,” Adebayo said.
She disclosed that the Fire Service has intensified sensitisation visits to corporate organisations to promote fire safety awareness and discourage unsafe practices that often lead to avoidable fire outbreaks.
On his part, the Area Commander, Onikan Fire Station and Chief Superintendent of Fire, CSF Oswere Michael, expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank, describing the donation as a significant boost to the station’s operational capacity.
“Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility—at home, in offices, and within our communities. This support from Fidelity Bank will greatly enhance our ability to protect lives and property,” he said.
