Nigeria Police Trust Fund Commissions Smart Divisional Police Station in Elepe to Boost Grassroots Security
The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has recorded another milestone in its ongoing drive to strengthen internal security and modernise police infrastructure with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Smart Divisional Police Station in Elepe, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State.
The ultra-modern facility, constructed by the NPTF as part of its nationwide intervention programme, was formally commissioned on Monday, December 22, 2025, and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force to enhance effective policing, community safety, and rapid response to security threats within the Ikorodu axis.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu, described the Elepe project as a practical demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to police reform and improved internal security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, the Trust Fund remains focused on providing modern, functional, and technology-driven police facilities that improve operational efficiency, boost personnel morale, and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
“This modern divisional police station reflects our resolve to equip the Nigeria Police Force with the infrastructure required to perform its constitutional duties effectively. The Elepe facility is designed to support professional policing, intelligence-led operations, and sustainable security delivery at the grassroots,” Sheidu said.
He thanked President Tinubu for his unwavering support for security sector reforms and acknowledged the collaboration of critical stakeholders, including the National Assembly and host communities, in ensuring the successful execution of the project.
The newly commissioned divisional headquarters is equipped with a modern administrative block, perimeter fencing, stationary CCTV surveillance systems, water storage facilities, and a solar-powered energy system—features aimed at ensuring uninterrupted operations and embracing environmentally sustainable policing solutions.
Also speaking, the Honourable Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson, commended the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for its strategic intervention in Elepe, describing the project as a timely response to longstanding security needs in the area. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting security agencies through legislative advocacy and complementary interventions, including improved mobility and road infrastructure.
The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Hon. Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, praised the NPTF for delivering a befitting divisional police headquarters that would significantly enhance security operations in Elepe and neighbouring communities. He urged residents to protect the facility and cooperate with police personnel to achieve effective community policing.
Traditional institutions also lauded the intervention. The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, described the project as a critical investment in peace and stability, noting that the presence of a modern and functional police station would deter criminal activities and promote lasting harmony in the area.
Representing the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Dayo Akinbisehin (SCID), stated that the facility would greatly enhance officers’ morale and professionalism. He assured that the Nigeria Police Force would make optimal use of the infrastructure while safeguarding all equipment provided.
The commissioning ceremony attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, senior security officers, and community stakeholders, underscoring the collective commitment of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund and its partners to strengthening grassroots security and advancing modern policing across the country.
